Present Centered Therapy for PTSD
PCT for PTSD is a non-trauma-focused therapy that has strong support. Despite its lack of focus on traumatic events, it has been shown to be nearly as effective (in some studies equally as effective) as other first-line, trauma-focused treatments like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE). As its name implies, PCT is concerned with the present and how PTSD symptoms affect day-to-day life. Individuals undergoing PCT are asked to keep a daily journal and come to weekly sessions with issues in mind to discuss and problem solve. It typically consists of 15 sixty-minute sessions. Although I generally recommend first trying CPT and PE, PCT is a very good fit for some, particularly those who enjoy less structured forms of therapy.
